Makeup Collection TAG!

Writer's picture: Pomz CamposPomz Campos

So as some of you might already know, I have pretty much stopped consuming beauty videos on YouTube simply because I want my own reviews and opinions on products to be as unbiased as possible. That being said, the few times I do watch beauty content on YouTube is when people do videos on beauty question tags. And this one made by punk and minimalist Georgia Harris, looks really interesting.

If you happen to have a larger collection of makeup, I definitely encourage you to do this tag. It's not just fun, it's pretty insightful too!

1. How long have you been collecting makeup?

I started really getting into makeup in late 2015, when I was still a senior in college. I started collecting when I graduated in mid-2016 because I was working and earning my own money at that point.

2. What kind of collection do you have? Minimal, utilitarian, aesthetic, historical, etc.

I would call my collection more utilitarian, I only buy and collect makeup (mostly palettes) that I know I will be using and I can see myself using. For that reason, I don't own any bronzers, contour powders, or brown-toned palettes.

3. Are you a completionist?

No, but I don't actively avoid being one. There hasn't really been a certain makeup range from any brand that has captured my attention that I want to own everything from it. Though I have a LOT of the chocolate palettes from I Heart Revolution, that's probably the closest thing to it.

4. How do you store/organize your collection?

Palettes and Highlighters:

I keep the products that I'm not currently using in small crates with lids that lock into place because I live in an earthquake-prone area. I would like my collection to be easy to pick up and somewhat protected should an earthquake strong enough to destroy my house strike (paranoid? maybe. But I'm not taking any chances.)

As for some of my nice-looking and newer palettes, I display those on bookshelves, I have two of these displays:

Lipsticks:

Like any self-respecting makeup influencer (yes, I am owning it and calling myself one) I have an acrylic drawer for all my lipsticks.

Meanwhile, the lip products I frequently use (my Coven Kosmetics and Menagerie Cosmetics lipsticks) are in an organizer from Ecotools.

Complexion and Other Eye Products:

Since I only have a few of these, they fit nicely into this cute rose gold pouch that my relatives gave to me during Thanksgiving (I have family in America).

Makeup Brushes:

I actually like to repurpose materials to turn into brush holders. These are old instant noodle cups with toilet paper rolls as dividers.

Then, I just placed them in cute holders.

Falsies:

I usually keep my falsies in their original packaging, because some lash brands pay attention to durable and reusable packaging. I did buy a travel case though, but it's not here in the Philippines yet.

5. What is your favorite thing about your collection?

I love that it's evolved into a nice mix of indie and drugstore products. I used to have a lot more high-end products all because I just didn't have a lot of access to variety. But that was 3-4 years ago. You really don't have to spend a ton on makeup anymore, even for colorful makeup that's cruelty-free. I'm happy about where it is now and I'm proud of it.

6. What is your least favorite thing about/something to improve your collection?

I wish I had more room for it and that I could use everything more often, which is usually the case for bigger locations.

7. What is the biggest category of your collection?

This should obviously come as no surprise, but it's eyeshadow palettes. I have around 32 palettes at the moment, and they all look properly used, not including the new ones of course. They're just such fun and versatile products to collect and use.

8. What is the smallest category of your collection?

I won't count products that I only have one type of, so false eyelashes - I love them but I never have more than 5 pairs at any given time.

9. Do you have a “holy grail” in your collection?

Yes - but not for everything.

10. Do you ever wish your collection was bigger/smaller or is it complete?

I do wish it was smaller sometimes, just because it's not easy to store. I also think that I have too many rainbow palettes, but I can't seem to stop buying them. But I look at my collection and feel proud of what I have and feel that it's perfect as it is now.

11. How often do you declutter makeup in your collection?

I declutter my makeup twice or thrice a year. For this reason, I am thankful for friends who like makeup but can't always prioritize getting it for themselves.

Clearing space for new makeup you can potentially love

12. Do you ever get envious seeing other people’s makeup collections?

Not really. I get a little bit envious of the people who have access to certain brands or have a lot of limited edition/discontinued products that I wish I bought - but aside from that, I don't really get envious.

13. Who on YouTube has the best makeup collection video?

Watch any of her videos and catch the palettes arranged like books behind her. I would honestly love to do something similar in the future when I no longer live in such an earthquake-prone area. For now, only the big and pretty palettes will stay on the shelves because I can't bear the thought of my collection falling to the floor and breaking.

I love the chaotic but pretty way she organizes her collection. She has a huge collection of makeup as she is a completionist, and everything is in a cart because she has to go through a lot of makeup usually. I do love how she's proud of how big her collection and has a healthy awareness of her own makeup addiction. I'm the same so I find that admirable.

14. What’s some advice you’d give to a future makeup collector?

Collect things that genuinely excite you. Don't fall into the pressure to buy products just because everyone keeps hyping it up or just because everyone has it - I've found myself decluttering super hyped up products and found that I am much happier when I buy a product because I am genuinely intrigued by it and want to try it.
