Back in April, one of my favorite YouTubers, emilynoel83, did an interesting video to answer a question one of her subscribers asked her.
If all of your makeup disappeared, what are the first 10 items would you scramble to buy?
First off, the thought of all my makeup vanishing is already a nightmare, deciding on just 10 items to buy is another ordeal in itself. Obviously, you’ll need to buy enough products for a full face of makeup, something to get you by while you (mourn for the loss of and) rebuild your collection. Since this is such an interesting topic, I decided to come up with my own list.
To make things clear, I’m going to imagine myself in a situation where my makeup tools are still there but none of my makeup is. After all, tools are different from makeup.
Also, everything I mentioned can be bought from one place, whether online or not. In this case, I’m going to choose the Shopee app. I do a lot of my makeup shopping using this app, and you can really find products at better makeup deals on this platform compared to other online retailers. Plus, they have sales, promos, and discount codes often so it’s completely possible to never pay for an item at full price and get free shipping. Anyway, onto the list!
THE FACE
The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer
If you like silicone-based primers, this is the best one I’ve found at an affordable price. You don’t need much of it to fill in your pores and gives you a nice sticky base to put your foundation on.
If you don’t like scented base products, you’ll also like this. And when paired with a silicone-based foundation (which is ideal, by the way), it has decent wear time.
Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation - Porcelain
This is what I consider my holy grail foundation. It doesn't feel heavy, has pretty good coverage, and it has awesome longevity. That's a good combination if you have oily skin and live in a hot and humid place like the the Philippines.
I can wear this foundation for 12 hours or more, and it still looks decent at the end of the day. You don't even need to set it with powder and it still has this soft matte finish that photographs pretty well.
Another plus is that you don't really need to use a concealer for added coverage either. Besides, if I lost all my makeup and only need to buy 10 items, concealer won’t necessarily be a priority if I already pick a foundation with good coverage.
RCMA No Color Powder
There’s a reason why this is a cult classic. Consider me part of it because this powder is simply amazing. It’s multi-use so you can use it to bake your face and set your foundation.
I have found that it never really makes my foundation look cakey and doesn’t make it oxidize, as some powders can do. Also, this little bottle lasts me a year. Yes, a year.
Colourpop Pressed Power Duo in Done Deal
What’s a nicely set face if you don’t look alive? I usually never go for singles when it comes to colored face powders like blush and highlight. I tend to go for palettes because it’s more convenient and space-saving. For blush and highlight duos, the Done Deal duo is one of my favorites. It combines two of my favorite things: Pink blushes and colorful highlighters.
The Above & Beyond blush is a fun pink that gives a rosy look and gives a beautiful brightening effect if you have a fair and cool-toned complexion. The Made Me It highlighter gives you a glow that is lit from within and ethereal in effect. I highly recommend this duo if it's a pink-toned blush and highlighter you're looking for.
Skindinavia Oil Control Finishing Spray
This giant bottle of setting spray will last you months. The stuff inside is great too. Aside from keeping your face matte for a long period of time, this spray will also meld your makeup together so you don’t look so powdery and unfinished.
Also, don't get too dissuaded by the price. This is a huge bottle, and it can last you a long time (think more than 6 months) even if you're the type to douse your face in setting spray, like me.
THE EYES
Milani Eye Primer
Of course I’d go and get my Holy Grail eye base! I mean, this eye primer is simply incredible. It makes my eyeshadows look more vibrant, makes them last longer, and it costs under 500 pesos. It works with any eyeshadow, drugstore, mid-range, indie, and high-end.
BH Cosmetics Zodiac Palette
This palette gives you more than just beautiful aesthetic. It gives you quality and versatility, and that’s the reason why I’m buying this palette before any other I own.
Also, it is readily available on the Shopee app whereas brands like Pinky Rose Cosmetics or the newer Makeup Revolution palettes may not be (even if I adore those palettes as well).
The baked eyeshadow colors are smooth, reflective, and immensely pigmented and look beautiful on your eyelids. You also get a wide range of matte shades, from warm browns to purples. If you also like baked highlighters, the highlighter that comes in this palette isn't too bad either. I just don't like the color that much.What more could you ask for in a palette really? Too Faced BTS Mascara – Waterproof
Another Holy Grail product. It makes my lashes look beautiful, separated, and doll-like. This mascara will also hold up and last through the tears I cry while I grieve for the loss of all my makeup and try to rebuild my collection.
Physician’s Formula Eyebooster Eyeliner (Blackest Black)
This is a recent discovery of mine thanks to Thataylaa, another favorite YouTuber of mine. She swears by this eyeliner and I can definitely see why.
It has a pen tip, much like the type you use for calligraphy. Usually, these kinds of tips tend to lose their shape and fray over time. But it the 4 months that I've had this eyeliner, it's never lost its shape at all. This is a dried out and empty eyeliner, and it looks brand new.
It definitely makes those sharp wings easier to do and get even. This is a product I'd definitely buy again.
LIPS
Nyx Lip Lingerie - Cabaret Show
When it comes to the perfect nude lipstick, this range of lipsticks has everything. I am in love with the formula and the shade range and it’s hard for me to pick just one. But for the sake of this tag, I will choose Cabaret Show.
As described, it’s a true dusty rose color that’s muted without being too warm or cool but deep enough to keep things grungey.
