Review: Ultimate Goddess Palette (Revolution x Rachel Leary Collab)

So I'm obviously very excited about any travel-friendly palette and while I am far from finding the perfect one, I thought this is pretty close to what I like, all things considered. When this collab with British YouTuber Rachel Leary dropped last year, I was so enthralled by it because this is one of the first few travel palettes I've seen from Revolution Makeup that genuinely excited me.

So I bought it and decided to make it my primary travel palette. This palette has gone with me on several trips at this point, I've brought it to a handful of hotels...

I even brought it on a beach trip to Zamboanga back in August 2019.

Most recently, I brought it on an overseas trip when my family and I went to Taipei.

Since I had no other palettes during those times, I really had to use this palette as much as I could, and it's safe to say that I think I have a pretty solid opinion of it now.

The Palette

When you open this palette, it's very telling of Rachel's preferences and aesthetic. It does suit someone who loves a very bronzed and warm-toned look. It's a larger palette that comes in teal plastic packaging, so it's a sturdy palette that I have no problem packing into my suitcase, knowing it will survive the trip. I would recommend wrapping it in your clothes to be sure though.

As it's a travel palette, it's an all-in-one palette in terms of the powder products you'll need. It has an array of eyeshadows as well as bronzers, highlighters, and blushes. Depending on your needs, you can also use the eyeshadows for your brows so all you need to pack in addition are concealer or foundation, primer, powder, lip product, and setting spray. Oh, and brushes.

The Shadows

In this palette, you get 9 face powders and 16 eyeshadows. There are enough eyeshadows to give you a variety of looks without overwhelming you because of the color story. These colors all complement each other so you can get a put-together makeup look without thinking too much. I think we can all agree that being in a rush is quite common during trips so I think Rachel intended for this palette to be easy to use for anyone.

Before I go on to the swatches, I will say that this palette is not vegan, as it does contain Carmine, which is a red pigment derived from crushed beetles. If you have a sensitivity to this ingredient or prefer vegan makeup, definitely skip this one.

I wouldn't really say you can make an extremely colorful makeup look every time you use this palette, but if laid-back makeup and tropical colors are your preference while on vacation - this palette is perfect for that.

Here are all included face powders on this palette swatched on bare skin without primer, some were built up to full opacity:

Here are the matter eyeshadows:

Here are all the metallic shadows:

One thing I noticed about the metallic shadows in this palette is that most of them are rather deep and rich in tone. I think these shades are meant to be a pop of color or to add something sultry to your eye look. Rachel also said that you can use the matte bronzers as eyeshadow as well if you want a more brown look. I guess that means the face powders are eye-safe, just maybe keep it in your crease though to be safe.

My Final Thoughts

I think this is a well-rounded and extremely useful palette. The design and the color story were very well though-out, even if it looks like some colors just randomly look like they were put there. I think you don't really have time to put-together a really crazy eye look, though Rach does say in her videos that this is more for people who want to be more creative with their otherwise warm-toned looks.

I admit that the matte shadows don't swatch that great but I have no problem with them when I was applying them to my eyes and blending them out. They're pigmented but not hard to work with at all. The metallic shades do seal over themselves when you use your fingers to apply them so I'd recommend using a brush to apply them to avoid hardpan. It's not really an issue for me.

As for the face powders, I wouldn't call them very universally flattering across the board as I am quite pale and I could only use some of them on my face. I already knew the bronzers were too warm for me. I'm not too fond of most of the highlighters and I'm pretty sure even if Perfect Peach is meant to be a blush, it looks more like a highlighter or blush topper. As for Caroline and Rose, I can pull them off but I just find them too warm-toned for me. I would have liked a pink blush.

I'm wearing the Caroline blush here and it looks like an orange bronzer, not my favorite look on myself

Overall, I will say that while this isn't my perfect travel palette, it does work really well for me and I will continue to use it until someone releases a travel palette with cool-toned shadows and face powders. All kidding aside, I do recommend this palette.
