This was somewhat to be expected, so don't act too surprised. When I heard that Carmi has released another collaboration palette with Revolution Beauty, of course I bought it! Unlike his initial collab palette which I reviewed sometime ago, this palette is both bigger and more amped up in terms of variety and looks.
The Palette
Like the Jewel collection, this palette has 20 shades, twice as many as the Kiss of Fire palette. It has 6 cream-to-powder shadows, 8 matte shadows that have Carmi's heart logo embossed on them, and 6 metallic shadows.
If this looks familiar, it's because Carmi specifically requested that his palette be made like the Holiday 2018 palettes that Revolution did, which apparently got high praise because of the addition of six large foiled shadows on the top of every palette. So Carmi took that idea, ran with it, and released this gorgeous palette.
The shadows are encased in plastic packaging with an exterior that looks like crushed teal foil. As with all Revolution Palettes, this is quite sturdy and has a mirror so you can travel with it.
Before I continue on with this review, I will say that this palette is not vegan as some of the shades contain carmine, which is a pigment derived from crushed beetles. I don't recommend this product if that is not your preference or you have an allergy to that ingredient.
Swatches
The Foiled Row
Some of the foiled shadows work better if you use a brush because they're too mushy to pick up with your fingers (Bite Me, . The others are smooth and wet in texture so it's better to use your finger to apply it onto your lid. Whichever way you choose to apply them won't affect their pigmentation.
To show just how reflective these shades are, I included swatches of them in broad daylight and in a low light environment.
Another really nice thing about these shades is that they are waterproof because of their formula. If you happen to fall into a pool at a party, like wearing makeup while swimming, or have a photo shoot that requires you to get wet, definitely wear the foiled shadows. These shades will stay on through numerous dunks and still pack a punch either way.
The Other Shadows
As for the smaller eyeshadows,I have no problem with most of the mattes, they're all soft, pigmented, and easy to blend out. I will say that Camo works more like a pressed pigment so it's a bit hard to blend out and can get patchy. It doesn't stain your eyelids though.
The shimmers are the stiff formula we know from Makeup Revolution, and the pan size makes them harder to work with. You will need to use a brush for them because the pans are pretty small and your finger doesn't have much room to dig into a certain shadow.
My Final Thoughts
This is definitely a palette that's more suitable for people who prefer their pops of color to be more shimmery while having a nice array of matte neutrals to define and deepen the crease.
I do appreciate that Carmi added more transition shades into this palette, especially because his previous palette was really more for people who just loved color. The Make Magic palette has more shades and can definitely cater to a lot more people than the Kiss of Fire Palette does.
However, I definitely prefer more matte shades in a palette and I felt like there weren't enough colorful mattes to really take your looks to the next level.
I do really like the foiled shimmers in this palette and love the softness of the mattes though. I guess it's just not the type of palette I like using because there aren't a lot of matte shades to play with. But I don't think that the Make Magic Palette is a terrible palette, it's just not the kind of palette really inspires me and pushes me to be creative.
