BH Cosmetics is back at it again with another exciting collab palette! This time it's with YouTuber Daisy Marquez. I was pretty intrigued by the color story of this palette when it first came out because I've never really seen that color combination before. It was a lot of warm tones and a few cool-toned pastels.
Initially, I thought of passing on this palette simply because it looked a bit confusing and didn't look cohesive. But since I was really getting into colorful eyeshadow looks, I decided that making looks with this palette would be a fun challenge and bought it anyway.
The Palette
This palette features 20 shades and is in Tiffany blue cardboard packaging, which I must say, is an interesting way to package a palette. As Daisy stated in her reveal video, she sees this palette as a gift to her subscribers and supporters.
That ribbon front lifts off the palette can can be inserted in a notch so the palette transforms into a mini vanity. I think it's meant to be travel-friendly.
While I haven't brought this on a trip yet, I think the palette is too bulky and could take up too much space. Besides, I always prefer plastic palettes for travel. That being said, I do really like the vanity design, I thought it was pretty clever. The mirror is a nice quality one too (not a blurry, fun-house type).
The Shadows
This palette includes 10 matte shadows (including pressed pigments) and 10 metallic shadows. I am also pleased to say that this is a vegan product and is also gluten-free. It is also dermatologist-tested. Anyway, if the color story confuses you, Daisy said that she separated the eyeshadows into quads if you look at the columns. So, the swatches will be done in that order.
Quad 1(Top to Bottom) : royalty, $lime, karma, and naked
Quad 2 (Left to Right) : dulce, flower, lucid, and dream
Quad 3 (Left to Right): bittersweet, vintage, stunt, and bougie
Quad 4 (Left to Right): cocoa, daisy, icy, and lust
Quad 5 (Left to Right): matter, passion fruit, angelic, and cha ching
Hopefully, seeing the colors laid out in these quads can take away some of the intimidation you feel about this palette and help inspire you to create more looks. While I didn't necessarily need these quads, I know someone who would like to try wearing colorful looks would appreciate these as a guide. It's also a really good thing that Daisy thought of this type of layout to better explain why the palette's color story doesn't seem cohesive at first glance.
My Final Thoughts
I honestly really like the formula of these shadows. The mattes are amazingly soft, and I was really surprised at how great the color payoff was. Even the pastel mattes weren't that hard to build up and those darker mattes were already really intense with the first swipe. Also, as expected, "karma", "passion fruit", and "bittersweet" can stain your skin.
Though the matte shades do kick up a LOT of product, which can be annoying to deal with. But I didn't have a problem with fallout though.
I also do like a lot of the metallic shades because they don't look like much in the pan but they pack a punch when you put them on. While some of them have a more silicone-like texture, I noticed that the pastel colors have a drier formula and are more crumbly upon application.
Since they're crumbly, they're more flaky when you apply them to your lid. It's nothing that setting spray can't fix (and it will make them even more foiled and intense), but if you skip that step, you might find flecks of some of these shadows floating around while you're blinking - which isn't fun by the way.
While I love the shadows themselves, I think the eyeshadow pans are quite small since the packaging is quite bulky. It might not be the most value you can get for your money, especially if you don't have the space for a large and thick palette. And while it is possible to create a few neutral looks with this palette, it's definitely for people that like or want to explore color. I wouldn't necessarily call it a palette for everyone, for sure.
However, in terms of eyeshadow quality alone, I highly recommend this palette. The shades are pigmented, most are easy to work with, and last all day. If you're more comfortable with color, love getting creative, and want to push your creative boundaries with makeup, this palette might be just the thing you need.
