Rainbow Palettes for Pride Month

So it's Pride month now and you're thinking of celebrating who you are, lending your support, or spreading awareness through makeup, you're likely looking for a rainbow palette. Then you go to search for a good rainbow palette and find that a lot of people are using the BH Cosmetics Take Me Back to Brazil or the 35B and Unleash Your Inner Artist Palettes from Morphe.

While those palettes are good choices (and are from cruelty-free brands), they're also both loaded with a LOT of colors and can be intimidating to use.

But seriously, how extra you want your eyeshadow to look like doesn't need a palette with more than 30 colors

I will be honest and say that I once had the Take Me Back to Brazil Palette and felt overwhelmed by all the colors in it - so I ended up decluttering it. Sometimes, versatility and usability aren't the same thing after all.

Maybe you want a smaller palette that's just colorful or are curious to see what else is out there, and you feel like your options are slightly limited. Fret not! I've compiled different rainbow palettes at different price points from my own collection to recommend to you. I will include a few eye looks, swatches, and a rundown of each palette's pros and cons.

BPerfect Cosmetics Carnival Palette (Stacey Marie MUA Collab)

Is this a Punk Beauty Alternative recommendation list without an indie brand? Nope. After all, many indie brands tend to experiment more with their products because they're still small and want to really stand out.

After the BH Cosmetics and Morphe palettes, I also noticed that this palette was a popular one, especially with people who really like color. I bought this late last year, and if you know me by now, this is my favorite colorful palette ever. You can read more of my thoughts here and here.

Pros
  • Overall, the palette is colorful and still easy to approach because there are neutral shades that you can use on their own or as transition shades in more colorful looks

  • All the shadows are beautifully pigmented and don't need to be built up much to get its full intensity (definitely apply this over wet primer/concealer)

  • The mattes blend out seamlessly without looking patchy or being stubborn (as some pressed pigments can be)

  • While there are only a few metallic shades, they're versatile and can go with a lot of color combinations

  • This is also a face palette because it has two versatile highlighters so the only face powder you need is a blush to complete your look

Do you see that eye look that resembles the Bisexual Pride flag? That's me coming out
Cons
  • It is really expensive, even if I do think it is worth that price

  • I won't necessarily call all the matte shades buttery soft so you'll need a proper set of makeup brushes for them

  • As with any palette with pressed pigments, some of these shades can stain your skin, I don't recommend this palette if you have really sensitive skin

  • This product is not vegan (the Magnesium Stereate and Palmitate ingredients are likely animal-derived)

BYS Euphoria Palette

Go the more muted and neon route with your colorful looks by opting for this palette. This palette made huge waves when BYS dropped it last year, especially during Halloween season.

I've been waiting for it to restock since that time, and I was glad I was able to snatch it up when it did. While I don't typically go for lighter shades when it comes to colorful shadows, I have been playing with them more lately. I may still prefer bright and bold colors, but I really did like playing with this palette a lot.

Pros
  • This palette is vegan, paraben-free, and hypoallergenic

  • Despite how colorful these shades are, I didn't notice any staining on my lids when I used this palette

  • The matte shades are easy to blend out, even if you don't set your eyeshadow base

  • Definitely the most beginner-friendly palette in this list because the shades are lighter in tone and can create more subtle multicolored looks

  • You can easily buy this palette online and at most malls and it's really affordable

Cons
  • The metallic shades aren't the best, they're pretty flaky and dry, you need to use a brush or sponge tip applicator and glitter glue to get them to work

  • Some of the mattes require a lot of building up to get their full intensity (especially the yellow and green shades)

  • The brushes that come with this palette are mostly useless, unfortunately

  • While I do like the color story, I find it a bit redundant that there are three different tones of orange in this palette (Bliss, Madness, and Rapture)

Bad Habit Beauty After Shock Palette

While we mourn the end of the shop hush app and the subsequent disappearance of Bad Habit Beauty, we can at least take comfort in the fact that their products are still out there somewhere.

Brushes are from the Anne Clutz Beginner Brush Set

This is their cruelty-free dupe of the Electric Obsessions Palette from Huda Beauty. I initially bought from this brand for their dupes, I continued buying for the formula because it's honestly really good.

Pros
  • Most of the mattes are highly pigmented, super soft, and easy to blend out

  • The metallic shades don't seal over themselves and have a nice foiled texture and finish

  • This may be a smaller palette but the color scheme isn't limiting at all - it can still inspire you to come up with some beautiful looks

  • The price point of this palette is really good for the quality that you get

Took these photos in different weather and lighting conditions to show how vivid these colors can be
Cons
  • The mattes are pretty powdery, which can end up as fallout on your face, best to do your eyes first when using this palette

  • The shade Plur is pretty hard to work with, you kind of need to stamp it on for intensity and slowly build it up to blend it out on your crease

  • While I do love the colors in this palette, I do think Sensation and Tingle are pretty redundant - even in name, I do think Sensation could have been switched out for a green shade to better round out this palette

My Final Thoughts

I hope you can get useful information from this post and get a rainbow palette that fits your needs so you can slay all day this June! Just because it can really suck to be a part of the LGBT Community in the Philippines, it doesn't mean that you can't silently protest or showcase your pride through makeup.
