The last few weeks have been pretty sad, and the rainy season in the Philippines isn't helping things. I noticed that yellow blush has become a bit of a trend lately though, and I thought it's time to bring some brightness into these dreary rainy months with this popping blush look. Here's one of my most loved look with yellow blush so far:

Cool-toned Eyes and Neutral Lips Is a Pretty No-Fail Look Methinks

Yellow blush can seem intimidating at first, but it's not as scary or as wild as you think. Let me show you how to pull it off. It's a pretty punk look and also looks good on people with lighter skin tones (pale princesses rejoice!). Initially, I was doubtful about trying this look because warm-toned blushes just give me the just-slapped look, so I assumed Yellow would NEVER look good. But we try crazy things whilst in quarantine, and this has been my discovery:

I look really good in yellow blush.

Ways to Wear It

As mentioned previously, if you happen to have cooler or neutral-toned skin, yellow blush is a way for you to get away with wearing warm-toned blush without looking like you got slapped across the face. For the most part, I like yellow blush the most when I have a cool-toned eyeshadow look on with dark or neutral lips. You can also wear a bright gold highlighter too:

Wearing yellow blush keeps the look balanced and makes it more colorful if you're wearing blue, violet, green, or a mix of those colors. It's eye-catching without looking as obnoxious as a bright red or hot pink blush would. If you have light and tan skin, this would look really nice on you.

Yellow blush also looks nice with minimal makeup as well. You can keep your eyes on the lighter side and skip lipstick for understated lips, as the pop of color.

Products You Can Use

An Eyeshadow from a Palette You Already Own

If you already have an eyeshadow palette that has a yellow shade, you can use it as a blush. I do notice that a lot of yellow eyeshadows aren't always that great, regardless of the brand it comes from. But patchiness and problems with eyeshadow blending won't be a problem if you're using it as a blush. A stiffer and firmly pressed yellow eyeshadow can look less intense if it's not too terribly pigmented too:

From my collection, I have used Mustard from the Glamlite Hamburger Palette and Night Eyes from the Menagerie Cosmetics Feral Palette, I do prefer Mustard though. It's easier to blend out.

Single Yellow Eyeshadow

Don't have a yellow eyeshadow in your collection? You can readily buy a yellow eyeshadow single that comes in its own container or keep it in a magnetic palette.

This is Tiki from ColourPop, but a lot of brands have a Yellow Eyeshadow

Some cruelty-free brands that sell single shadows include Sugarpill Cosmetics, Lethal Cosmetics, Give Me Glow Cosmetics, and Devinah Cosmetics.

DIY It!

If you want to be more resourceful, you can look at your palettes and scrape some yellow eyeshadow into a powder. You can mix and create your own custom yellow from different yellow eyeshadows that you can either keep in a powder container or mix with alcohol and press into a pan for your own custom blush.

This is made with different yellows in my collection and here is the swatch:

Like I said, sometimes a not-so-pigmented eyeshadow can turn out to be a great blush color for you.

My Final Thoughts

If you feel like your makeup washes you out or just feel like wearing a pink or peach blush is just boring, you can keep your look fun by wearing yellow blush instead. It's a fresh and unique look, that isn't super clownish. I know it can seem intimidating, and I didn't expect to like it at first too. But after I tried it, now I love it!

Don't be afraid to try this fun look so you still look bright and sunny during the colder months. Who knows, you might even end up loving it too!
