Review - Face Candy Amazonia Palette

Sometimes brands that create dupes can be a godsend when you want to try a limited edition product but can't. While brands like BYS and Revolution Beauty are household names locally, recently, American brands like Bad Habit Beauty and Face Candy Makeup have been gaining popularity. This is mostly because they create dupes of high-end brands' products at an affordable price point and impressive quality.

This blog post will be about Face Candy Makeup's Amazonia Palette, their dupe for the discontinued Naughty Palette from the Kylie Cosmetics  Holiday 2017 collection. Released with its counterpart, the Nice palette, both were 14-color palettes that had interesting color combinations that were perfect for the season.

However, the collection has ended up in the sales section of many online store almost 8 months after its initial launch because the hype for it had died down. After all, we are all familiar with the "Limited Edition Trap" that many brands set up for us and we are more cautious now. For a lot of people, going for a dupe or similar product is an easier option because there is no pressure to get it right away. In my experience, many dupes are permanent products.

While I did like the color scheme of the Naughty Palette, I decided to forego getting it simply because I find that the eyeshadow formula of Kylie Cosmetics is sub-par on their limited edition products.  In my experience, it's better to go for their permanent products. Though, I did always wonder if I missed out on the palette or not, especially now that it has been phased out. So one day while browsing Shopee, I stumbled upon this palette and decided to try it.

The Palette

When I first got the palette, I almost dropped it while I was taking it out of the box because it was a lot heavier than I thought. The cardboard packaging that this palette comes in is thick and sturdy, and the quality feels amazing. I will also like to add that while this product is cruelty-free, I can't really say if it is vegan or not. It contains Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate and Ethylhexyl Palmitate, which could possibly be animal-derived since they are fatty acids.

That being said, the eyeshadows are definitely a softer and more foiled formula, and they're gorgeous:

They swatch beautifully and go on pigmented on the eyes. The matters are soft and blend out easily, the metallic shades are creamy to the touch, and the glitter-infused shade isn't hard to work with.

Top Row

Top to Bottom: Orchid, Starbeam, Dangerous, Morning Mist, Howler, Toucan, and Cacao Bean

 Bottom Row

Top to Bottom: Passionfruit, Capybara, Basin, Piranha, Monsoon, Waterlily, and Sunbeam

The shades aren't pressed tightly so they can kick up a lot of product that can end up as fallout on your face while you do your makeup. I suggest you do your eyeshadow first so you can clean it up before you put on your face makeup. You can also do your makeup while you're baking your face with powder so you can just brush the fallout away from the under eye area and cheeks when you're done.

It's also best to use your finger to apply the shimmery shades to get the best pigmentation and "Starbeam" and "Waterlily" are also best applied over a sticky base.

My Final Thoughts

I'm really glad I picked up this palette. The quality of the eyeshadows is amazing! I'm honestly surprised that they're so easy to work with and have great color payoff too. They also have excellent longevity and stay vibrant on your eyes without fading or getting muddy. The shimmer shades don't crease too much even after more than 12 hours of wear, even with how exceptionally oily my eyelids can be. In the photo below, I've had it on for 13 hours, and it's still really vibrant.

In this photo, I have Dangerous in the crease and Piranha all over the lid.

I will say that the only shade that I'm not too impressed with is "Waterlily" because it's the only matte shade that is challenging to work with; which is a bummer since the other matte shades perform superbly. It has pigmentation issues when applied over eyeshadow primer that has been set and can blend away. It's best to work slowly with it by tapping it over a wet base to slowly build up the color and blend it out.

If you're in a hurry, I suggest you don't go for a green look using this palette. Though you will find that this palette can inspire you to create a lot of different looks without feeling like you've done everything. It offers so much versatility along with its ease of use. Even without the Naughty Palette to compare it to, I think the Face Candy Amazonia is simply a good palette by itself and is worth picking up.
