I am well aware that it's been a while since I've done a tag and my posting schedule has been quite irregular. Resigning from your job and preparing yourself for new work is more time-consuming than you think.

Imagine this type of scenario, but a lot messier and more stressful...

So to make up for it, I'm doing the Brands That Excite Me Tag that YouTuber Samantha March created. It's about 5 brands in your collection that know how to capture your attention and another 5 brands that need a bit (or a lot) of help. As for who I tag to do this, I'm tagging you, dear reader. Anyway, here are my brands:

TOP 5

ColourPop Cosmetics

I praise whatever gods may be when ColourPop started doing eyeshadow palettes. While they did start off with a lot of neutral palettes, the brand showed that they can also do color excellently. I do enjoy the formula of their powder products and find that the quality is really nice especially for the price.

Clockwise from the Top: Ooh La La! Palette, Blue Moon Palette, It's My Pleasure Palette, and Just My Luck Palette Center: Through My Eyes Palette (Sara Hi Collab)

I love it when ColourPop does release colorful stuff because the color schemes they come up with are just so interesting, and I also love these monochromatic 9-pan palettes. ColourPop excites me because they can cater to everyone - color lovers and neutral makeup lovers alike. And that's why they're so popular in the Philippines and beyond.

Revolution Makeup

Don't act so surprised. I know that I talk about Revolution Beauty a lot on my blog but that's only because they keep giving me reasons to like them. I admire how they've made diversity such an integral part of their brand and message, and unlike some brands, they don't act woke for the sake of it.

Clockwise from the Left: Blush Dream Palette, Skin Kiss Highlighter, Deep Dive Palette, and Extra Spice Palette (Sophdoesnails Collab) Center: Conceal and Define Concealer in C4 (Big)

They launch a LOT of products every week. but it doesn't really overwhelm me that much because they vary the products so much that everyone can be excited about something, but not everything. They now have skin care, beauty, tools, bath and body products, and even water containers! Plus, they're one of the few brands that have collaboration products that I actually like.

BH Cosmetics

First and foremost, NOBODY does affordable brushes like BH Cosmetics can. Their brushes are always top-notch, no matter what set you buy. I adore their brushes and always will. While their eyeshadow palettes can be hit-and-miss, they have come out with really superb palettes too.

Clockwise from the Right: Weekend Festival Palette, Blacklight Highlighting Palette, Sylvia Gani Palette, and Daisy Marquez Palette Center: Brushes from Marble Luxe Set

Speaking of palettes, I think BH Cosmetics is also one of the few brands that do great collaborations because they work with some influencers who know how to create colorful and well-thought out palettes. I can definitely see myself staying fiercely loyal to this brand for the time being.

VICE Cosmetics

It's official, I declare VICE Cosmetics truly unkabogable (unbeatable) when it comes to holding my interest. The brand's color range and interesting products always have me wondering what else they'll come up with next. So far, I've also liked a lot of what I've tried from the brand.

Clockwise from the Right: Phenomenal Liquid Lipsticks, Aura Blush in Applauded, Duo Finish Foundation, Aura Blush in Byucon, and Aura Glow Highlighter in Shimmering

I have blushes, lipstick, a highlighter, and even a foundation (though the shade I got is too dark so it's currently a bronzer). VICE Cosmetics just knows how to make affordably priced makeup with really good quality and I am here for it! I cannot wait to see what they come up with next.

Ace Beaute Cosmetics

I've been intrigued by this brand ever since they released the Quintessential Palette in 2017, I secretly told myself that this indie brand was one worth watching out for. And it is. Unlike a lot of brands, Ace Beaute takes their time between releases and it's obvious that a lot of thought and attention goes into the color stories of their palettes.

Top: Flair Palette Bottom: Oceanic Palette

They do colorful palettes, but they're more for people who love color and want to see something new. Sometimes, you prefer deep and rich colors instead of bright colors. Sometimes, you might prefer a palette full of greens and blues because so many palettes already have reds and pinks. Ace Beaute has all kinds of palettes, and I'm excited to see what they'll release next.

BOTTOM 5

Fenty Beauty

I suppose the main reason why Fenty Beauty doesn't excite me is mostly because their products are catered towards people who prefer more natural makeup. After all, Rihanna herself does like to keep her makeup simple most of the time. I have this one lipstick, which looks nice but I wasn't too impressed by the formula. All other recent launches haven't really caught my eye that much.

Stunna Lip Paint in Uninvited

Also, as of posting this, Fenty Beauty has since created an account on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site where influencers and netizens alike can share content and reviews about the brand. The brand also has a blank account on social shopping site Little Red Book (Red).

This may indicate that the brand is beginning to sell in Mainland China - though it can't be said now if this will be a physical store or if the brand will just be sold online. If it's the former, that's really something I am not excited about at all.

Too Faced

Once upon a time, I wanted to buy every new thing this brand released and called it one of my favorite brands. It's very rare now that I actually want something from this brand now that isn't my holy grail or usual go-to product that I always buy. Their releases have stayed in the incredibly neutral and warm-toned realm, and I admit that as a brand they do some really, really annoying stuff.

Left to Right: Sweet Peach Palette, Diamond Light Highlighter - Diamond Fire, and Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation

I will of course keep repurchasing my go-to products from Too Faced, but in terms of buying their new releases? I just don't see that happening to be honest.

Tarte

Same story as Too Faced, launches that look like the same colors recycled over and over, a vegan cosmetic here and there, and brand trips. Also, as a brand I just feel like they're tone deaf to how things are changing socially.

Top Left: Rainforest After Dark Palette Bottom Right: Goddess Glam Eye & Cheek Palette

The good thing is that they're somewhat catching up given their recent product launches and collaboration. Tarte has come out with more colorful palettes, and collaborated with YouTuber Jessie Paege for Pride Month. However, I have also noticed that their recent products aren't even making it here to the Philippines anymore.

So even with these efforts, it seems like it's too late for Tarte and this might not make them as popular as they used to be.

BLK Cosmetics

While BLK Cosmetics touts uncomplicated beauty, I also think there's a fun and interesting way to go about that. Granted, I do think their liquid lipsticks have a great formula and the color range is decent. But that was a flagship product. Lately, I feel like their recent collections have been quite uninspired as of late and seem like they're just capitalizing on the popularity of k-beauty a bit too much.

Left and Right: Soft Matte Mouse Liquid Lipsticks Center: Long-Lasting Liquid Lipsticks

Their newer releases just don't make me jump up and down because Korean Beauty isn't really my style. Though, if you were planning to go CF and still liked your Korean makeup products, you can swap them for the new BLK Cosmetics products.

elf Cosmetics

Okay, so this is a half-truth. Their complexion products and skin care products do excite me and I'm excited to try more of them. But their makeup doesn't really excite me. I have these three products that I love, but none of these are recent releases.

Top: Opposites Attract Palette Bottom Left to Right: Prismatic Highlighting Duos (Blue Lagoon and Mermaid Tail)

While that's a bummer, I'm not too sad about it because elf has other products. I am curious however, to see what other types of skin care products that they'll be releasing in the future.
